Do the Twist! 

Chapter Five, and we crochet into Two sides of the Chain to make our strip into a Mobius Twist

In chapter five of The Mobicorikon, we learn to crochet a Mobius Twist from the starting chain.

The crochet chain is the skinniest strip possible to twist our strip into a Mobius ring.

We start our first stitch into the chain the non-traditional way, — right handers turn to stitch the righthand track first, from corner B down to corner D.

This is to avoid having to chain one extra chain-to-turn.

Single Crochet Stitch at 1, then 2, etc, to 10, then connect corners

Single Crochet Stitch (See Chapter Three) into the right hand track of chain gaps from Corner B to Corner D;

 Twist, 

Connect to A with a SCR stitch, stitch down the other chain gap track from A to C, 

and connect back to B (keeping the twist.)

And you get this

This is the stitch-connect, D to A

D and A were connected, here you stitch into the remaining 10 chain gaps from A down to C

You have stitched into both sides of the chain 10, and now have twenty pair-of-gaps on a track, but Row 0 is not complete yet! The twist needs to be locked in.

You lock it in by SCR stitch each of the twenty pair-of-gaps, next one, the next one, the next one etc, till you get back round to the beginning.

You’ve stitched every chain gap, but the last two corners have not been connected yet, C to B.

careful to keep the twist, and your direction of travel with the string behind the work: Push/pull the edge so you can stitch the next gap… the push happens typically at pair 4, 9, 10, 12 , 17 and 19

Row 0 complete

After Row 0, the genetics of the twist are done. I tied on a green wool, and stitched Row 1 around the track of 20 stitches.

Alternately, to form a Mobius ring from the starting chain, you can also Twist/Connect FIRST, with the very first SCR stitch into the chain.

Remember, there are three distinct tracks of gaps in the starting chain, and in Chapter 6, we will use all three sides of the starting chain to form Row 0

 BEGINNER'S CROCHET HOW TO:  CHAIN AND STITCH ROW ZERO ON ONE SIDE OF THE CHAIN I recommend you use a 4mm or 5mm crochet hook and 2 or 3-ply yarn.   KNOTTED LOOP Knot a Fixed gap onto your hook CHAIN Chain your chain with Chain Stitch CHAIN STITCH YOU HAVE A KNOTTED LOOP ON THE HOOK 1.
